Hello one and all, and happy 4th of July, (belatedly)
I’m checking in from London England, where my family and I are on day ?? , somewhere in the middle of our 2 and a ½ week change of pace from life in the US of A. I always forget a relaxing change of pace just means a brand new kind of crazy, running around and all, but it’s been worth every minute. It’s just hard to justify sleep when you have Notre Dame down the street, or Westminster Abbey across town . It’s been a week in Paris, a few days in the countryside of England, now London, and then off to Ireland tomorrow to finish up for 6 days. I’ll be travel-logging a bit in the upcoming newsletter, but I wanted to drop you all a note saying hello.
Yesterday we took the Underground to the St. John’s Wood stop and walked the few blocks down to the intersection of Grove End and Abbey Road, where, for you Beatle fans, is a holy ground of sorts, the street crossing where John, Paul, George and Ringo walked across Abbey Road to capture the photo for the cover of their last album together.
It had been raining on and off since we ate lunch, and was still drizzling by the time we got there, but I had lugged my guitar this far in London traffic and wasn’t going to leave till I played a few short Beatle songs and paid homage to some of the music that has changed the world. It was a little wacky in that there was a group of scavenger hunt participants dressed in chicken and fairy costumes (I kid you not) that kept crossing the road snapping pictures, much to the displeasure of the London cabbies. I asked them if they wanted to join in on a song or two, and they agreed, nervously checking their remaining list of duties for their hunt. We took a little video of this and will check it out and post it as soon as possible.
We hit Westminster Abbey yesterday afternoon and it was one of the highlights of the whole trip.
I need to run now, I look forward to hearing from you, and I’ll be keeping in touch.
All my best,
PM
