The Morning Star – 2011 Holiday Edition

Happy Holidays!

Greetings to all our fans and friends!

I’m barrel rolling over the rough roads of KY as I write this, so excuse the poor typi*^!!$ng. We just finished a weekend run up to Iowa for a date at the beautiful Adler theatre in Davenport, and a night and day at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. As our friend Mike Blair said about the beautiful, scenic small town with an active college life, “anyone who is here in Decorah came here on purpose.” Thanks to all who came and took part in the concerts. While we were there in Decorah, we had the chance to utilize some of the incredible singing talents that abound among the students who take part in the four-plus choirs that are there. More than likely these will be part of our upcoming Stars & Promises tour. It’s just around the corner believe it or not. Take a look at the dates and mark your calendar, and come sing along with us.

This year we’ll be featuring an all-acoustic instrument format (with sound support of course). We’re looking forward to playing some new songs, sharing some music for the Christmas and holiday season that is fast approaching.

Peter Mayer Group Hatch Prints

To commemorate the upcoming LIVE Peter Mayer Group CD, we commissioned a Hatch show print (of the Country Music Hall of Fame) to design and print a custom poster to advertise the three performances that were recorded for this project. These posters were sold at the performances in Forest Park, St. Louis and Annapolis, and we’re now offering them for sale to mailing list subscribers and visitors of Peter’s website.

Key West Adventures

We spent the first part of our November down in Key West, a welcome change from the cold rainy Nashville days that were starting in. We played two nights at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon with brother Jim on bass, and R. Scott Bryan on percussion and vocals. What a cool bar, performance venue, and eatery it is! It’s an outdoor indoor venue that lets you enjoy the moonlight (and an occasional surprise shower) and great live performances from an array of bands that are coming down A1A in the next months. Good friend Scott Kirby was playing there all week, and we got a chance to jam a little on Thursday night with his rockin’ band of musicians, Dave Edmisten and Lew London.

Another first for us was doing a show with the entire Coral Reefer band sans Jimmy on Saturday night (and Ralph MacDonald was missed of course). Mac opened the show, and we all followed with a couple of our own songs. It was a beautiful Key West night, some of the best weather that I can remember, and it was a packed Casa Marina house as well. Thanks to Charlotte and all at PHIP, and all of you friends for that!

We had a visit from Jimmy Buffett this year at the streetfest on Friday. People were leaning over balconies, out of shop windows and off of the New Orleans style balcony terraces that grace a few of the buildings on Duval Street. Jimmy’s set list was a retrospective on many of his early Key West songs. In fact, not a song we played was written after 1975! Jimmy started the concert by announcing that to the very day, he had first made the trip down to Key West 40 years before.

New LIVE CD – Under Your Spell

We are proud to announce that the new live CD “Under Your Spell” (our very first official live CD by the way) culled this summer from three live performances of the Peter Mayer Group is nearly done!!! To all those who were there in Chicago, St. Louis, and Annapolis, our special thanks goes out to you again for making these nights to remember. Going back and listening to all the nuances of the nights was like getting in a musical time capsule. It was not an easy task to choose between them, but I think we have a collection that all comes together: “three days gone in a minute, a breeze is a hurricane if you spin it.” Thanks to Scott, Maggie, Chris and Marc for a great job, and to all of my friends here at Little Flock Music who worked together to make this all come together. I have to send out kudos to Alan Schulman and Chris Stone who worked long hard hours picking and choosing the best of the lot for a place here on this CD.
